As reported on the official website of the Doctor of Islamic Politics-Political Science program, Andi Luhur Prianto, a doctoral student in Islamic Politics-Political Science at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), successfully conducted his dissertation proposal seminar. The seminar was held by the Doctoral Program in Islamic Politics-Political Science on Tuesday, January 26th, in the Postgraduate Study Hall of the UMY Integrated Campus. Andi Luhur presented his dissertation proposal entitled “Formal Rules, Informal Practices: Dynamics of Head of Regional Candidate Selection in Political Parties in South Sulawesi” to the examination committee.
Andi Luhur mentioned that his research will examine the dynamics of the head of regional candidate selection process from the perspective of rational choice institutionalism on a supply and demand-based selection mechanism. In addition, it will explore the formal and informal processes of selecting head of regional candidates, as well as the primary role of sub-national and national party elites in the head of regional candidate selection procedure in South Sulawesi.
This lecturer from Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar also evaluated the impact, mapped the patterns, and built a model of the latest developments, especially regarding compliance with formal regulations amidst informal practices by local and national elites of political parties. The examination was open and attended by other students of Islamic Politics-Political Science. The examination committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Achmad Nurmandi, M.Sc., Prof. Dr. Sunyoto Usman, M.A., Dr. Zuly Qodir, M.Ag, and Dr. Hasse J., M.A (chairperson). The examiners provided suggestions and criticisms regarding the technical, substantive, and methodological aspects of the proposed dissertation. Andi Luhur was asked to revise his proposal according to the examiners’ directions.
