Entrepreneurial University Discussion with UGM Professors

Tuesday (04/02) Postgraduate Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) invited Prof. dr. Rr. Titi Savitri Prihatiningsih, MA, M.Med.Ed., Ph.D. (Professor of Medical Education and Bioethics FK-KMK UGM) as a resource person in the third Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The discussion was chaired by Prof. Ir. Sri Atmaja P. Rosyidi, M.Sc.Eng., Ph.D., P.Eng., IPU., ASEAN.Eng. as Director of the UMY Postgraduate Program and attended by all Heads of Study Programs and Secretaries of Study Programs within the UMY Postgraduate Program. The third FGD was held as a follow-up to the Postgraduate Program in preparing the curriculum design towards an entrepreneurial university.

In this discussion, Titi conveyed several things related to entrepreneurial universities that have been implemented by most universities abroad. These universities work together with industry, where the results of their research are used for their industry. In the UK, there is a special area for research and the government encourages universities to conduct research by providing fully-funded study costs.

Titi emphasized that the main thing needed in realizing an entrepreneurial university is passion & action. According to him, UMY has great potential to become an entrepreneurial university because of the Muhammadiyah background that has established thousands of hospitals, universities, schools, and other institutions. “It is a big decision and courage if UMY wants to lead to entrepreneurship university,” said Titi.
