As part of its commitment to fostering a high-quality campus that can compete on a global scale, the Doctoral Program in Management (PSDM) of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) Graduate Program held a Curriculum Workshop. This event took place on Wednesday, April 10th, in the First-Floor Meeting Room of the UMY Graduate Building. The workshop featured three speakers: Prof. Dr. Hamdy Hadi, DEA; Nurul Indarti, Sivilokonom, Cand, Mers, Ph.D; and Dr. Bernadinus Maria Purwanto, M.B.A.
Dr. Bernadinus Maria Purwanto, M.B.A., explained that the orientation of a doctoral program should shift from a profit-oriented to a benefit-oriented approach. This discussion extends beyond the ongoing Fourth Industrial Revolution, delving into the upcoming Fifth Industrial Revolution which will prioritize humanity and the development of technologies that benefit humankind.
“We must be able to become a center of learning and be at every point needed by the academic community,” added Prof. Dr. Hamdy Hadi, DEA.
Prof. Dr. Siswoyo Haryono, M.Pd, the Deputy Director of the UMY Graduate Program, expressed his hope that the UMY Graduate Program’s Doctoral Program in Management would become a reputable and preferred choice.
Sri Atmaja P. Rosyidi, M.Sc.Eng., Ph.D., P. Eng, the Director of the UMY Graduate Program, added, “We hope that this Curriculum Workshop will lead to significant changes that will enable students to publish independently and that the Doctoral Program in Management will become a leading program not only within UMY but also elsewhere, continuously evolving.”
Prof. Dr. Hamdy Hadi, DEA, further explained that philosophy of science should be a mandatory course in doctoral programs. He highlighted three types of truth: empirical truth (based on previous research), scientific truth (established theories and principles), and philosophical truth (logical reasoning).
