
Yogyakarta, April 22, 2025 – The Graduate Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) held an Inaugural Lecture for the Even Semester T.A 2024/2025 with a very relevant and actual theme, namely “Sailing in Uncertainty: Global Tariff Wars and Indonesia’s Economic Future.” This event took place online through Zoom Meeting and was attended by new students and lecturers in the UMY Postgraduate environment.
The inaugural lecture featured keynote speaker Prof. Faris Al-Fadhat, S.IP., M.A., Ph.D., an international economics expert who also serves as the Vice Rector of University Development and AIK. In his presentation, Faris discussed the impact of tariff wars between major world countries on the global economy, especially how these trade tensions affect Indonesia as a developing country that relies heavily on international trade.
According to Prof. Fauzi, tariff wars involving major countries such as the United States, China, and the European Union have created great uncertainty in the global market. In addition, the inaugural lecture also highlighted the importance of economic reform, increasing the competitiveness of local products, as well as strengthening trade diplomacy as keys to facing future challenges. The event was interactive with enthusiastic Q&A sessions from students and other participants.
This inaugural lecture event marks a strong start for new students of the UMY Postgraduate Program to explore economics in depth and applicability, especially in a dynamic global context.
The event continued with the presentation of material related to lectures by the Director of Postgraduate UMY, Prof. Ir. Sri Atmaja Putra Jatining Nugraha Nasir Rosyidi, S.T., M.Sc.Eng., PG-Certf., Ph.D., P.Eng., IPU., ASEAN.Eng. Sri Atmaja explained the lecture scheme at S2 and S3 UMY Postgraduate Program. (SN)
