Indonesia: Disaster Minimarts, Opportunities for Academics

The Graduate Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) once again becomes the right place for benchmarking universities in Indonesia. This time, Universitas Ngurai Rai, Bali, is present to establish a relationship and attend a public lecture on disasters. The hope of this meeting is to be able to broaden perspectives at the analytical level, especially regarding disasters in Indonesia.

“The issue of disasters is a serious matter, and it’s a must to address. Indonesia is often called a disaster supermarket and minimarket because Indonesia can experience disasters five times a day. This should be a challenge for academics to see the potential of disasters. Conversely, it is a serious problem if there is very little research on disasters in Indonesia,” said Rahmawati Husein, Ph.D., Deputy Chair of the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership.

Not only did it present Rahmawati Husein, Ph.D., this public lecture also featured Dr. Mukti Fajar Nur Dewanta, M.Hum as a speaker. The great hope of this visit is the realization of campus contributions through community development, research on disasters by both lecturers and students, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation with the government (27/7).
