As reported on the official website of the Master of International Relations, there are six pillars of integrity: honesty, consistency, commitment, objectivity, courage and firmness, and discipline and responsibility. This is explained in Dr. Abdullah Hehamahua’s book entitled “Integrity: Sowing Honesty, Reaping Happiness.”
“Success is not only measured by material wealth but also by the quality of ‘qana’ah’. In Danish, there is the term ‘Pyt’, which means accepting what happens. No matter how much your salary is, one, five, ten million, it will not feel enough if we do not have the quality of qana’ah. We still remember, five years ago, the salary of a member of parliament could reach 100 million, but he was caught by the KPK because he was not qana’ah,” said Dr. Abdullah Hehamahua, in a book discussion seminar on Saturday (12/5).
According to him, the crisis of honesty and the loss of shame towards immorality indicate a problem with ‘akidah’. Meanwhile, a consistent attitude is unity with action, patience, simplicity, optimism, and continued effort, like a line that is a collection of points.
He continued, that commitment can be exemplified by the behavior of a crow and a coconut tree. The crow is a bird with a high level of intelligence. In its community, a cheating crow will be punished, that is law enforcement. In terms of commitment, we must also be like a coconut tree, all parts of which, the roots, stem, fruit, and leaves can provide benefits.
Abdullah Hehamahua, who is a former advisor to the KPK, conveyed his views on the concept of integrity and honesty that he had written in his book. Dr. Surwandono was also present as a reviewer, and Dr. Arie Paksi as the moderator.
