On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, the Postgraduate Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) held a public lecture on Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan with the theme “PROGRESSIVE ISLAMIC LEADERSHIP: RELIGIOUS AND NATIONAL MODERATION”. The event was held online via Zoom Meeting. This public lecture, which also served as the first lecture for new students, aimed to provide UMY Postgraduate Program students with knowledge about progressive Islamic leadership and to fulfill the students’ obligation to obtain material on Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan.
The public lecture was opened with a presentation on postgraduate programs by the Director of the UMY Postgraduate Program, Ir. Sri Atmaja P. Rosyidi., M.Sc.Eng., Ph.D., P.Eng.IPM. In his presentation, he gave an overview of the Postgraduate Program and showed photos of the UMY Postgraduate Program environment to new students who were unable to attend the campus.
The UMY Rector also attended and delivered a welcome speech to new students of the UMY Postgraduate Program. “The world of education today has entered the era of the 4th industrial revolution, and our campus has provided IT facilities and infrastructure to support students.”
In the public lecture on Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan, the Postgraduate Program invited Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si, the General Chair of PP Muhammadiyah, as a speaker. Prof. Dr. Haedar Nashir stated that progressive leadership is oriented towards the needs of the people. Leaders must bring prosperity to their people. Leaders must not only be good, but leaders must also be intelligent and knowledgeable. The Prophet Muhammad SAW is the best role model as a leader.
The Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan Public Lecture of the UMY Postgraduate Program was attended by approximately 250 students, lecturers, and education staff of the UMY Postgraduate Program, with approximately 200 of them being new students of the UMY Postgraduate Program. This Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan Public Lecture will continue to be held by the UMY Postgraduate Program and must be attended by all UMY Postgraduate Program students.
