In an effort to improve the quality of writing and publication in reputable scientific journals, Postgraduate Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) organized Scopus Camp activities on Thursday (10/07) at the Mini Ballroom Student Dormitory UMY. This activity is intended for students of the UMY Postgraduate Masters and Doctoral programs.
Present as the main speaker, Dr. Mohamad Agung Rokhimawan, M.Pd., presented material entitled “Strategy and Ethics of Publication in Reputable International Journals” in the first session. Dr. Mohamad Agung is an educative author of the Journal of Education Science as well as a lecturer at the State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. In his presentation, he explained various general provisions in writing scientific articles and provided tips and tools that can be utilized to support the writing process. He also emphasized the importance of understanding the policies of each international journal.
“Do not let us choose shortcuts just for the sake of graduation requirements, just follow the process according to the provisions, normally about six months, or revision afterwards,” said Dr. Agung. He also added that an understanding of the classification of reputable journals, including SINTA and Scopus indexes, is very important for students who want to publish their research internationally.
Furthermore, Dr. Agung highlighted the challenges and complexities in international journal publications, ranging from technical issues such as writing, the use of punctuation, to sentence structure. “Everyone feels great about their writing, but after people read it, it will definitely be different,” he added.
Not only delivering material, Scopus Camp activities are also a forum for consulting student writing progress. Postgraduate UMY is committed to continuing to support its students in developing research and facilitating academic needs, especially in writing scientific articles. “You can write an article in a day, right,” joked Dr. Agung, responding to student questions. The activity was then continued with a question and answer session and an article writing assistance workshop for internationally reputable journals.
The second session was assisted by Dr. Fitriah M. Suud, M.Ag. and Dr. Udin, M.M. as UMY Postgraduate lecturers. In this session, students were facilitated with a room to consult directly related to reputable journals and journal classification based on each article that students had prepared previously.
Through this Scopus Camp, students are expected to have sufficient provisions to improve the quality of writing and prepare themselves for publication in Reputable International Journals (JIB).
