Published through the official website of the Islamic Politics-Political Science Doctoral Program, in collaboration with the Yogyakarta Sociology Scholars Association, the Islamic Politics Study Program held an event titled “Symposium on Reinventing Indonesian Democracy.” The event featured Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si (Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership) as a speaker and was moderated by Dr. Zuly Qodir, M.Ag. (Head of the Islamic Politics-Political Science Study Program), held at the Kasman Singodimedjo Building, UMY Integrated Campus (8/7).
Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si invited sociologists to work together to bring about change for the nation and to be able to offer something new that is useful for the nation. Various perspectives are needed to see and explain our national issues.
“Recently we have been presented with issues that are becoming increasingly hardened. First, the strengthening of identity politics, and then radicalism has also become a growing issue in society,” he said.
He further stated that sociologists need to understand the core of positivism by using an interpretive approach in order to understand the basis of politics in Indonesia. Haedar hopes that scientists working in the field of sociology can continue to conduct constructive discussions and be able to offer solutions to the problems that occur in our country.
