Emphasizing the importance of diversity and readiness to face the tide of educational globalization, the Postgraduate Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) held an inaugural lecture for new students in the odd semester of the 2019/2020 academic year and a public lecture themed “Educational Globalization, Diversity, and Identity Politics.” The event was presented by Prof. Dr. H. Komaruddin Hidayat, Rector of Universitas Islam Indonesia, on Saturday (2/11) in the AR Fachrudin A Meeting Room, 5th Floor.
Prof. Dr. H. Komaruddin Hidayat stated that Indonesia has very strong ethnic ties compared to feelings of love for the Indonesian homeland itself. Ideally, the diversity of tribes and cultures should make Indonesia more resilient when facing problems because the pillars of the state are strong. Tribes become the supports of one of its legs, while the house remains Indonesia. Like other developed countries, they do not expend energy to maintain diversity because they are already homogeneous states.
Furthermore, he stated that there are eternal things in education, namely affection, social intelligence, and intellectual technical credibility. The most important thing for parents is how their children have good morals, character, and are accepted in social environments. The education of the future is how children can face the future. Because, rarely are graduates immediately ready to work, except for medical graduates.
