The AIK study was opened by Dr. Zuli Qodir, M.Ag., the Deputy Director for Academic Affairs of UMY’s Graduate Program. He mentioned that the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology has mandated Muhammadiyah universities to organize Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan studies. With the theme “Actualization of Islamic Knowledge from a Multidisciplinary Perspective,” Zuli Qodir expressed his hope that research at UMY’s Graduate Program could adopt a multidisciplinary approach.

Beliau mengatakan bahwa amanat Diktilitbang untuk Perguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah untuk menyelenggarakan Al-Islam Kemuhammadiyahan. Dengan tema “Aktualisasi Keilmuan Keislaman Perspektif Multidisiplin” harapan Zuli Qodir bahwa riset-riset di PPs UMY dapat menggunakan pendekatan multidisiplin.
Prof. Drs. H. Ratno Lukito, M.A., DCL., the speaker for the UMY Graduate Program’s AIK study, is a Professor at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and the Editor-in-Chief of the Scopus Q2-indexed journal Al-Jamiah, published by UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. In his presentation on the theme of the AIK study, he explained that a multidisciplinary approach involves addressing a problem by considering various perspectives from multiple relevant fields. He stated that each Islamic higher education institution may have different terms for its development model, “Although the concepts or labels may vary, there is essentially a common core in viewing the relationship between natural sciences, social sciences, and culture/humanities, namely the desire to build mutual understanding among these three fields of study through synergy, interconnection, or interrelation.”
