A Reflection on Indonesian National Politics and Democracy in 2020

As reported on the official website of the Doctor of Islamic Politics Program, Dr. Zuly Qodir, the Head of the Doctor of Islamic Politics-Political Science Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), was invited to be a speaker at a Political Education Webinar organized by the Student Association of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. The theme of the webinar was “Reflections on National Politics and Indonesian Democracy in 2020.” This event was held via Zoom Meeting on Saturday, December 19th.

On this occasion, Zuly Qodir presented a material titled “Islamic Politics in the Era of Digital Democracy.” “The future of Islamic politics must be able to adapt to social media, because information is now very easily accessible and abundant. However, we must be able to filter all this information,” Zuly explained during his presentation. Zuly added that in the digital era, Islamic politics must be able to respond to humanitarian issues. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we should not judge people who are positive for COVID-19 but instead educate them about preventing the spread of COVID-19 through social media.

This webinar was enthusiastically attended by 100 participants, mostly students, from start to finish.
