Salak Management Training for Mranggen Community

As reported on the official website of the Master of Public Administration Program, the Master of Public Administration Study Program conducted community service activities in the form of training in Mranggen, Magelang, Central Java (February 23). On this occasion, there were two trainings. The first training was aimed at fathers and young men in the village of Mranggen who were mostly salak farmers, namely organic fertilizer making training. The second training was aimed at housewives, namely training in making salak bows and utilizing salak peel waste into crafts.

The training, held in the village of Mranggen, Serumbung sub-district, is a collaboration between the Master of Public Administration Study Program (S2) and the Undergraduate Program of Public Administration (S1) involving lecturers and students. The S2 students involved in this community service were Anang Setiawan, S.IP, and Resky Eka Rachmandani, S.IP, and the S1 student was Ramadhani.

“The majority of the population in Mranggen are pondoh salak farmers, so with this training, all people can switch to organic farming. Hopefully, pondoh salak can increase the selling price of salak and can even be exported abroad so that it can improve the economy of the people of Mranggen,” said Dr. Suswanta, M.Si., Secretary of the Master of Public Administration Study Program, Graduate Program, UMY.

Furthermore, he hopes that all participants can follow the training until it is finished and can later transfer knowledge to other people, and it is hoped that the community can also develop a salak picking tourist village.

In addition, Sapto Qiptanto, a figure who has long been involved in organic farming, also became a resource person in making organic fertilizers. The training began with a theoretical explanation of how to make organic fertilizer as well as the right composition and materials for making organic fertilizer. This was followed by practical making of fertilizer by the training participants.
