As reported on the official website of the Doctoral Program in Islamic Politics, there is concern about the quality of democracy and human rights in Indonesia due to the presence of groups that often impose their will on others on the grounds of belief and faith.
As stated by the Head of the Doctoral Program in Islamic Politics-Political Science at UMY, Dr. Zuly Qodir, M.Ag, at the 2019 Indonesian Human Rights Festival themed “Human Rights-Based and Socially Just Regional Development Through a Cultural Approach”. This event was organized by the International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID) on Wednesday, November 20th at the Jember Regency Government Hall.
Dr. Zuly Qodir stated that such incidents should not happen because they contradict the true principles of democracy, namely the upholding of the law and justice. Therefore, Muhammadiyah and NU must be truly encouraged, and we must help create a quality democracy so that it does not become a decline democracy.
In addition to Dr. Zuly Qodir, other speakers included Ihsan Ali Fauzi (Director of the Center for Religious Studies and Democracy (PUSAD), Paramadina Foundation), Riri Khariroh (Commissioner of the National Commission on Violence Against Women), and Rumadi Ahmad (Lakpesdam PBNU).
