UMY Receives Social Award from Muhammadiyah Central Board

As quoted from the official website of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) received an award from the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership in the category of Technology and Education Innovation in the social sector, which was presented at the 108th Muhammadiyah Anniversary Reception held virtually on November 18, 2020. The theme of the Muhammadiyah Anniversary Reception was “Strengthening the Religious Movement to Face the Pandemic and National Issues”.

During the award presentation session of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership, Bakti untuk Negeri (Service for the Nation) was presented directly by Prof. Dr. Abdul Mu’ti, MEd, Secretary General of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership, on the 6th floor of the At-Tanwir Mosque, PP Muhammadiyah, Jakarta. The award presentation session was specifically dedicated to individuals who have served and contributed to the nation in combating COVID-19.

“The award was presented to 12 martyrs who fell while fighting COVID-19. The 12 martyrs are: Yudi Dian P, a nurse at RS UMM; Rizal Ansori, a nurse at PSIJ Pondok Kopi; Dwi Hartatik, a nurse at RSIJ Cempaka Putih; Dr. Hr. Nurul, a doctor at RS PKU MUH Yogyakarta; Setyaningsih, a nurse at RS Roemani Semarang; Suwarno, a nurse at RSM Rodliyah Achid Moga; Dr. H. Hasan Z, a doctor at RSI Banjarmasin; Suriansyah, an administrator at RSI Banjarmasin; Sugeng Purnomo, a security guard at RS MUH Surabaya; Manggala Putra M, a nurse at RS ‘Aisyiyah Kudus; Dr. Machmud, a doctor at RS Ahmad Dahlan Kediri; and Maulana Malik Hidayatullah, a nurse at RS PKU MUH Surakarta,” said Abdul Mu’ti while announcing the award winners in front of attendees such as former Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Drs. H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, and Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Zulkifli Hasan.

For other awards in the field of technology and education innovation, this award was given to individuals who have successfully created innovations to help overcome COVID-19 for affected communities. The awards were given to: Sari Permata Bunda, a teacher from Agam Regency, West Sumatra, with the innovation of an Inspiring Teacher at SD Muhammadiyah Batu Hampar; Dimas Afif Ardian, a student of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Depok, Sleman, with the innovation of Phydis Belt or a social distancing belt; Putri Widia Ningrum and Imam Ramadhan, students of the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Health, UM Surabaya, with the innovation of a Sterilization Tool for Shopping Goods; Feby Nurkalih and Sulistya Putra, et al.: Students of the Faculty of Engineering and FKIK UM Surakarta with the innovation of the “Suryamu” Robot to Assist in Checking COVID-19 Patients; Itmi Hidayah, et al.: lecturers from the Faculty of Engineering and Science, UM Purwokerto with the innovation of “Rosita”, a robot to assist in COVID-19 services; Lutfi Imam Prasetyo, et al.: students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Cilacap with the innovation of a Body Temperature Detection Robot; Tsania Taskia Nabila and Ata Rofita Wasiati, students of Biotechnology, FTS Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta with the innovation of Phylogenetic Analysis and Design of Indonesian SARS-CoV-2 Primers, which also won the 1st place in PKMM AST-PTM.

Meanwhile, the award for institutions was given to the Muhammadiyah COVID-19 Command Center (MCCC) in the field of health, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta in the social field, and PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta in the hospital achievement category.

The social award given to the campus with the tagline “Excellent and Islamic, Young and Global” was based on its commitment to paying attention to life on and off campus during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was officially announced in Indonesia in March.

UMY has a campaign called ‘UMY Mengabdi’ which involves distributing sahur meals and takjil for breaking fast to 1530 students for a full month. In addition, UMY also provided hundreds of food packages to ustads, elementary school employees, Muhammadiyah Early Childhood Education (PAUD) employees, and mosque caretakers. As well as to the community in Kasihan District, Bantul and Gamping District, Sleman. (Hbb)
