In early 2023, the Postgraduate Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (PPs UMY) conducted academic visits to several universities in Malaysia. These visits were divided into two batches: the first batch from January 9th to 12th, 2023, and the second batch from January 31st to February 3rd, 2023.
During these visits, PPs UMY visited approximately five universities in Malaysia, namely Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The primary objective of these visits was to strengthen existing collaborations with each university and develop new partnerships, particularly in research and publication.
The visits were warmly welcomed by all universities. Both universities introduced their flagship programs, especially in the postgraduate programs. Programs that caught the attention of PPs UMY included the Master by Research program offered by Universiti Malaya and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and the Fast Track program offered by International Islamic University Malaysia. PPs UMY is currently developing its own Master and Doctor by Research programs and Fast Track programs.
It is hoped that these visits will strengthen cooperation between the two universities in all academic fields, including research and publication, staff and student exchange, and others. It is also anticipated that the sharing of knowledge and experiences will enable PPs UMY to become a more competitive and internationally recognized postgraduate program, particularly in research and publication.
